Condolence From: Ellyn Osborne Seelye
Condolence: I was so deeply sorry to learn from Carolyn of Jean's passing. In spite of the frailty of recent years, hers was a tenacious spirit that I will always remember with great pleasure.

Jean was a sustaining presence in my father's later years, and he enjoyed and appreciated all that she was and all that she did. He also delighted in all the doings and in the fond and close relationships he shared with her family-- Jean's children, their spouses, and their children.

Jean was very kind and impeccably hospitable whenever we made the trip to Oshawa from New York state to visit. She had a special twinkle in her eye for our son Benjamin, from the time that he was a toddler, ready to wreak havoc on their beautifully kept apartment on Simcoe Street. She had a box of fascinating toys at the ready, and patiently entertained him and listened to his prattle.

As was noted in your beautifully expressed obituary, Jean had a rich inner life, cultural interests, and intellectual resources that must have sustained her. A voracious reader, she shared my taste for classic "who-dun-its", and it was huge fun to compare notes on detective fiction with such an aficionado!

Jean had the kind of intelligence that could startle and delight. I enjoyed her dry humor, as did my Dad. Her wit could spark up suddenly and catch you "unawares".

A remarkably well-lived life, and a memorable one. My best to all the Werrys as they bear this loss.

Love, Ellyn, Eric, and Benjamin
